The vintage was good but not great for Pinot Noir – thus the Grand Cru was declassified into this village-level wine – the “H” stands for the village of Hochstadt. “Aus den Dörfen” translates to “from the villages” – you’ll see this on all of Hammelmann’s village-level wines.
This wine is sourced from parcels richer with limestone; mostly French genetics. The wine is both more dense and more compact than the village. There is a stoniness to the nose, with a beautiful red and purple fruit. It is coating and elegant – lovely juice.
