alte Kirsche, meaning ‘Old Church’ referring to the Alte Kirche St. Bartholomäus built in the 12th century, is a Riesling from the vineyard of Palmberg-Terrassen in Sankt Aldegund. This single-vineyard bottling is one of the most historic, cherished, and deeply complex wines that Lardot makes. From a 0.3 hectare plot, which was acquired in 2021, this 2023 is the second release. Vines planted mostly in the 50s and 60s, Palmberg is the part of Sankt Aldegund that stretches away from East-facing Himmelreich (am Bach), into the shallow side valley of the village, orienting itself South. Grey and blue slate.
Formerly named “die Winzerin” in 2022 as an homage to the historical women laborers in the vineyards.
Crushed and macerated a few hours before pressing, fermentation in barrel on full lees, racked once barrel-to-barrel after 18 months, bottled after 22 months. Aged in tonneau.
