This is sourced from the greatest parcel in the Goldgrube, directly around the sign – there’s a sort of rocky cliff / bluff area there, with a tiny part with super old vines – all over 100 years old and ungrafted. This is his top bottling and was only able to secure this parcel in 2016.
Only 300L made and was not bottled in either 2021 or 2022. Bone dry, loads and loads of herbs and smoke and camphor and power. This is the meditation on texture, extract and intensity amongst the trio of Grand Cru dry wines.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The 2023 Goldgrube Aurum, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is a bone-dry wine made from fruit picked on the oldest, over 100-year-old un-grafted vines in the vineyard, which was fermented for 18 months in cask before being bottled (hence the late AP number). The wine offers a great nose of gooseberry, pear, lemon, whipped cream, oregano, white flowers, chalk, and wet stone. It proves stunningly elegant and airy on the palate and leaves a superb feel of ginger, white flowers, prune, and citrusy elements in the long and hugely focused finish. The aftertaste is packed with flavors yet also incredibly elegant. This is a grandiose dry Riesling in the making! | No 75, July 2025 |
