The Gaispfad Kabinett Trocken is for me one of the diminutive masterpieces of the Mosel. This wine and Stein’s Palmberg Kabinett Trocken are the two wines that made me realize the greatness of this genre.
For me the Gaispfad Kabinett Trocken always tastes like iron and thyme with nearly no fruit to speak of. Made from 90-year-old, ungrafted vines, in 2024 because of the difficulties, only 500L were made. A wine that is more to be experienced than described—intense structure and yet evaporative and completely seamless. This is plain and simple a wine for the absolute mineral freaks.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The 2024er Trabener Gaispfad Riesling Kabinett Trocken is a dry wine made from fruit on very old, un-grafted vines and was fermented and matured in Fuder. It offers a beautifully playful but backward nose of fresh herbs and fine spices. The wine is nicely juicy and engaging on the palate, where passion fruit, vineyard peach, bitter grapefruit, and spices mingle with a very firm acidity. The finish is delineated and quite impressive. This dry wine is made for lovers of firmly zest wines. | No 76 July 2025 |
