The Gaispfad Kabinett Trocken is for me one of the diminutive masterpieces of the Mosel. This wine and Stein’s Palmberg Kabinett Trocken are the two wines that made me realize the greatness of this genre.
For me the Gaispfad Kabinett Trocken always tastes like iron and thyme with nearly no fruit to speak of. Made from 90-year-old, ungrafted vines, in 2024 because of the difficulties, only 500L were made. A wine that is more to be experienced than described—intense structure and yet evaporative and completely seamless. This is plain and simple a wine for the absolute mineral freaks.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The 2025er Trabener Gaispfad Riesling Kabinett Trocken was made from very old vines in the upper part from the vineyard and was fermented and matured in Fuder down to bone-dry levels of residual sugar. It offers a very delicate and superbly elegant nose of whipped almond cream, vineyard peach, herbal tea, pear, bergamot, jasmine, and may tree. The wine proves delicate and finely creamy on the palate and leaves a light and pure straight touch in the very long and focused finish. There is still a touch of tartness in need of integration, which will happen in a few years. | No. 81 July 2026 |
