The first of a trio of Grand Cru wines, including Aurum and Schimbock, is the Goldgrube Trocken. From 120-year-old vines trained on single poles and aged for over a year on the full yeasts in fuder. There is structure, of course, from the old vines and long élevage, but also a beautiful drinkability and lightness.
Absolutely psychotic in 2023, this is so pure, harmonious and even succulent. Alongside the power and herbal tones, there is always a distinctive white flower note in the wines from Goldgrube that contributes to the freshness. A masterpiece amongst Mosel dry wines.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The 2023 Goldgrube Riesling, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is a bone-dry wine made from fruit harvested on up to 120-year-old un- grafted vines around the sundial and was left for one year on its gross lees (of which approx.10% in a Stückfass). It offers a superb nose made of pear, starfruit, and smoke. The wine is gorgeously playful and precise on the palate and leaves a stunningly light-footed but intense feel in the finish. | No 75, July 2025 |
