As noted with Fass 25, yet more revelations of climate change, the “1er Cru” Scheidterberg and Sonnenberg hills that curl around the village of Ayl are beginning to turn out wines of real depth and complexity, yet they also still flaunt a bit of their even-more-cool-climate thing. Think of it as “Barrel X” with more punch and guts.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The N°4 Ayl, as it is referred to on the front label (the reference to the vintage is left for the back label), is an off-dry wine (with 16 g/l of residual sugar) was made in equal parts from Scheidterberg and Sonnenberg. It offers a nicely aromatic and attractive nose of yellow peach, spices, bergamot, violet, lemon, and pear. The wine coats the palate with a mix of yellow, slightly riper fruits, and zesty elements. There is a touch of smoothness, but the finish is fresh and nicely balanced. This is a very attractive off-dry Riesling. | No 76 July 2025 |
