This is sourced from the most northwestern part of the Goldgrube, a cooler section of the vineyard that is on the border of Wolf and Trabener with west and slightly north exposition. Like the other Grand Cru dry wines this is over 100-year-old, ungrafted vines.
There is a sleeping power to both the acid and the phenolic structure here, it is really grand and impressive while still soulful. Amongst the trio of Grand Cru wines this is edgy, tense and evaporative.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The 2023 Schimbock, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is a bone-dry wine made from grapes harvested in this prime lieu-dit in the Würzgarten in the continuation of the Wolfer Goldgrube and which was fermented and aged in a two-year-old Stückfass for 18 months. It offers a stunning nose made of cassis, gooseberry, oregano, whipped cream, rose hip, and smoke. The wine proves superbly precise and elegant on the palate and leaves a great feel of fresh fruits and minerals in the almost endless finish. Spices and red berried fruits enhance the precision and persistence in the aftertaste. What a huge success! | No 75, July 2025 |
