Amidst the range of Kabinetts that Wei-Kü make in a year, the Sonnenlay is often the most elegant, reminding me a bit of the form of a classic middle Mosel Kabinett. It also happens to be one of Alexandra’s favorite vineyards.
In 2024, the rapier-like acidity and the 40g of RS leads to a Kabinett that tastes nearly dry at this point of its youth. As is often the case, there is a fresh, mountain stream quality here with light angles cutting across the palate as the wine comes in waves.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The 2024er Wolfer Sonnenlay Riesling Kabinett was made from fruit harvested at low 80°s Oechsle and was fermented down to barely fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (39 g/l). This is nicely backward and driven by citrusy fruits, white flowers, and minty herbs. The wine proves beautifully delineated and elegant on the palate and leaves a remarkably elegant feel in the long finish. This is a gorgeous and beautifully delineated Kabinett in the making. The aftertaste is citrusy, precise, and incredibly long. | No 76 July 2025 |
