Amidst the range of Kabinetts that Wei-Kü make in a year, the Sonnenlay is often the most elegant, reminding me a bit of the form of a classic middle Mosel Kabinett. It also happens to be one of Alexandra’s favorite vineyards.
In 2024, the rapier-like acidity and the 40g of RS leads to a Kabinett that tastes nearly dry at this point of its youth. As is often the case, there is a fresh, mountain stream quality here with light angles cutting across the palate as the wine comes in waves.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The 2025er Wolfer Sonnenlay Riesling Kabinett was made 25-50-year-old vines and was fermented in Fuder down to barely fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. It delivers a beautifully fresh and subtly aromatic nose of lavender, vineyard peach, smoke, thyme, orange blossom, bergamot, and plum. The wine proves juicy and delicately fruity on the palate and proves more intense and focused in the almost linear and well delineated finish. This Kabinett beautifully combines ripeness with the usual lightness and freshness. | No. 81 July 2026 |
