The village-level Wolfer is a bit grander and more elegant, but also perhaps more ruthless than the “Felsenfest.” Every year this is a personal favorite; every year it has some of the most extreme numbers (meaning low residual sugar, high acidity). Sourced from up to 80-year-old vines in the Goldgrube and barrel-aged on the full yeast in barrel and stainless steel for a year, this is always released a year behind the Felsenfest, along with the Grand Crus.
Moritz thinks 2023 may be the best dry vintage he has seen. While theoretically a warmer vintage, the wines have a stunning purity and harmony.

| Mosel Fine Wines | The Wolfer 2023, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is a bone-dry wine made from 50-year-old vines trained on single pole in the terraced part of the Wolfer Goldgrube and was left for one year on its gross lees. This offers a superb nose made of mirabelle, spices, wet stone, and minerals. The wine proves beautifully precise and herbal on the palate, with a gorgeous feel of grapefruit and pear adding fruitiness to the finish. This is a great dry wine, which will benefit from 1-2 years of bottle aging. | No 75, July 2025 |
