From the same parcel as the classic Goldgrube Kabinett. However, within this site lies an extraordinary mosaic of tiny sub-parcels—some no larger than 100 square meters—shaped over generations by our predecessors, who cultivated and planted them differently over time. Here, ungrafted and grafted vines coexist, each reflecting a different chapter in the vineyard’s long history. The wurzelecht selection, much like the dry Reiler wurzelecht, is a strict selection drawn from the oldest ungrafted vines within this parcel. It represents the purest expression of this historic site.

In the glass, it is immensely fine-boned and delicately structured—almost ethereal in its precision. A wine of quiet depth and remarkable longevity, built to evolve gracefully over a lifetime. This shows perfectly how important it is to keep the old genetics of Riesling alive.

There are few who are as gifted as Daniel was with Prädikat wines. Sure, there are people – Egon Müller, J.J. Prüm, Willi Schaefer, Julian Haart – who can make Kabinett as well as Daniel did; each has their unique style. No one, however, can make a Kabinett better than Daniel could. That is as close to a fact as one can get in this subjective business.

Moritz and Vinzent know this, and so they are changing very little here, though I would say that while the wines have lost none of their energy, their bounce, they have gained a sharper, less forgiving edge to them. Sometimes, as the acid-mineral-recoil of the Prädikat wine hits, I ask myself: “Can acidity have tannin?” These are almost shocking wines.

The 2025er Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Kabinett Wurzelecht was made from a selection of very old, only un-grafted vines in the Jon sector of the vineyard and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. This delivers a finely reductive, very elegant, and beautifully spicy nose of vineyard peach, lime, jasmine, orange blossom, thyme, and mint. The wine proves superbly well balanced and delicate on the palate and shows great energy as zesty elements kick in and give a lively side to the whole. This Kabinett beautifully combines lightness, freshness, and depth. It is a stunning success!
