Jonas shares “The Rochus #21 is made from 50% Chardonnay and 50% Elbling. The 2021 vintage with its cool weather was ideal for sparkling. After 25 months on the lees, the crémant was disgorged as brut-nature. Last year, I had already announced that I wanted to delve a little deeper into the topic of sparkling wine. Sparkling wine is still a ubiquitous trend, but I feel more committed to the tradition of my father, who has been producing very good sparkling wines since the mid-1980s. Sparkling wines with a low dosage have been my favorites right from the start.”

| Mosel Fine Wines | The N.V. Crémant Brut Nature Rochus #21 is made from an equal blend of Chardonnay and Elbling harvested in 2021 which was fermented and aged in used oak barrels until November 2022 before being bottled, aged on its lees, and then disgorged without dosage with little SO2 added (20 mg/l) in January 2025 (the disgorgement date is provided on the label). This yellow-white colored wine offers a superb nose of pear, delicate lime, sage, brioche, and delicately smoky elements. The wine is subtly creamy and racy on the palate, where floral elements (from the Elbling) come through and a great sense of airiness to the experience. The finish is multi-layered, enticing, playful, and simply gorgeous. What a superb Sekt! | No. 76 July 2025 |
