Weissburgunder… Pinot Blanc – we hardly knew thee.
The truth is Wasenhaus has absolutely redefined what the word Pinot Blanc means; these are revelatory wines that have descended to earth, like superbly elegant aliens, to push our imagination to new levels.
The entry-level Wasenhaus Weissburgunder is sourced from both volcanic soils on the Kaiserstuhl as well as some loess plots south of Staufen. It is directly pressed, whole clusters, and then fermented in neutral, used barrels of various sizes and shapes. It is aged on the full lees for roughly one year, before seeing another six months in stainless steel before being bottled.
