The truth is Wasenhaus has absolutely redefined what the word Pinot Blanc means; these are revelatory wines that have descended to earth, like superbly elegant aliens, to push our imagination to new levels.
The delicately named “Bellen” is sourced from a very steep vineyard that twists and bends into a side valley with a dramatic western exposition. It is perhaps the most finely knit of all the Wasenhaus Weissburgunders, thread-count unknown but very, very high.
The Bellen grows on limestone clay soils in Kirchhofen and Pfaffenweiler. Due to the steepness, the site simply must be worked completely by hand. The vines are more than 50 years old. The wine is direct-press, whole-cluster; the fermentation and elevage took place in a neutral oak barrel. One year in barrel, then six months in stainless steel before being bottled.
