Weissburgunder… Pinot Blanc – we hardly knew thee.
The truth is Wasenhaus has absolutely redefined what the word Pinot Blanc means; these are revelatory wines that have descended to earth, like superbly elegant aliens, to push our imagination to new levels.
The Möhlin Pinot Blanc – uh Weissburgunder! – is grown on very steep, terraced limestone slopes above the Möhlin creek. Because everything is so steep – to say nothing of the terraces, the site is worked entirely by hand. The vines were planted in the 1950s with a major part of Pinot Blanc – uh Weissburgunder – but you can find mixed in the rows some Chardonnay and Chasselas vines too. The wine is whole-bunch pressed, fermented in used French oak barrels and aged for one year before the final half-year in stainless steel.
